Brazilian guitarist - RICARDO PRIMATA - a brief history

Ricardo Primata began his music career playing acoustic guitar when he was 11, then he started to learn erudite guitar at Universidade Federal da Bahia. But he never left electric guitar and took some private classes. When he was a teenager, he made acoustic and electric guitars concerts in some high school fairs. At the age of 15, Ricardo started his first heavy metal band called Angkor . With self compositions and a particular way of playing, Angkor ’s sound was influenced by heavy metal, erudite, flamenco and Brazilian music.

In the beginning of 2002, Ricardo started his own progressive rock project and released his first record. “Ritmia”, produced and mixed by Ricardo, contained 10 tracks that mixed different kinds of music genres and had guest participations of renowned local musicians. “Ritmia” did not follow any formula or pre-conception of music business, so it got very good reviews from newspapers, radio stations, websites, zines, and webzines. The December issue of 2004 of the Brazilian Guitar Player magazine brought an interview with Ricardo and described him as having “powerful guitar riffs, well constructed guitar solos, and good compositions”.

Ricardo Primata also teaches private classic and electric guitar classes with multimedia cd’s and self produced class material that he prepared during his life as a musician. Also he plays at workshops and workshows with a full band or just with a playback. Ricardo has made some workshows as guest musician beside well-known Brazilian bands like, Angra axeman Kiko Loureiro and Almah/Angra frontman Edu Falaschi.

Due to his talent, Ricardo Primata is endorsed by some of the best Brazilian guitar companies, as Crafter Guitars (www.crafterguitars.com.br), T. Miranda Custom Effects (www.tmiranda.com), Softcase (www.softcase.com.br), Groove Strings (www.solez.com.br) and Athelier Phnx (www.athelierpnhx.com). All of them have great reputation in the Brazilian music market.

Currently, Ricardo is pursuing a degree in composition and regency at the music school of Universidade Federal da Bahia. He is now promoting his solo EP “Visões”, a four-track material that is a preview of his instrumental new solo cd, scheduled to be released in 2009. Primata is participating with his new track “Reafinando Paisagens” of a music festival sponsored by Educadora radio station.
